How to Take a Water Pump off a Johnson Outboard Motor

You can take the water pump off a Johnson outboard motor in just a few minutes with a socket wrench. The Johnson outboard motor is very similar in design to most other outboard motors, with the water pump attached to the top of the gear box. You should remove the water pump to inspect the impeller inside the pump housing at least once a year, depending on how often you run the motor.
