How to Put Together the Molle 2 Rucksack

Save

The Modular Lightweight Load Carrying Equipment -- known as the MOLLE -- is a backpacking "system" used for recreation and trekking. These packs are standard issue to the fighting men and women in the US military, and are available for purchase in many military surplus shops. The MOLLE 2 goes together via an arrangement of nylon straps and plastic clips. Set your MOLLE up for your specific needs, and achieve a custom fit and pack.

  • Wrap the vest of the MOLLE 2 around you as with with any normal vest. The vest is the main weight-bearing portion of the MOLLE 2 pack. It is the primary part of the system where the other accessories and packs are attached.

  • Bring the sternum straps together; clip the quick-clips together. Pull the nylon strap to tighten the MOLLE 2 to your chest. Attach the bottom waist-torso strap around your stomach, and clip it together.

  • Pull the shoulder straps to bring the MOLLE 2 vest down to your shoulders and body. Take the vest off; spread it open on a flat surface.

  • Grab an accessory pack or pocket; choose the location on the vest where you want it attached. Line it up so the top of the pocket is even with the closest line of 1-inch nylon straps at the attachment point. Slide the pocket-webbing-strap down the vest's nylon strap. Snap the webbing into the pocket's snap, ending at the bottom of the pocket-pack.

  • Repeat the process with other pockets and packs. Put on the vest, clip the sternum and waist straps together and adjust the weight so it is comfortable.
