Some digital cameras offer power-saving features, such as sleep mode or auto turn-off after a set amount of time. While these options save your camera's batteries from unnecessary drain, the features can become a nuisance when trying to take intermittent photos during an event or gathering. Turning the sleep mode off reduces camera start-up lag, keeps the LCD screen illuminated and makes your camera ready for picture taking at a moment's notice.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the camera's power switch to "On."

    • 2

Press the "Menu" button located on the back of the camera.

    • 3

Scroll through the options using the directional arrows or round selector pad located to the right of the LCD screen, on the back of the camera.

    • 4

Stop on the "Preferences" menu. Press "Ok" or "Set" to choose this option.

    • 5

Scroll through the menu items and stop on "Capture," "Sleep Mode" or "Timer Settings." The menu name varies based on camera brand. Press the "Set" or "Ok" button to choose the appropriate option.

    • 6

Toggle through the options until you reach the "Off" setting. Press "Set" or "Ok."

    • 7

Press the "Menu" button to exit the menu system. Resume your picture taking.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep an extra set of batteries in your camera bag.

  • When using a digital camera with the sleep mode turned off, remember to turn the camera off at the end of the day or when you're finished taking pictures. Press the "Power" or "On/Off "button, then store the camera.
