How to Paste on an iPad

The copy-and-paste function allows you to select desired text and copy that selection to a new area. Many people know how to paste text using a keyboard or mouse, but when it comes to the iPad's touch screen, novice users often draw a blank. Like other computer devices, the iPad includes built-in touch screen tools to let you highlight text, copy it and paste it to a new field, such as an email, instant message or document.

  • Touch your finger where you wish to select text for copying, and hold it there until a magnifying glass appears.

  • Drag your finger across the text that you want to highlight. Pull your finger off the screen to finish highlighting the text. The "Copy" button appears near your selected text.

  • Touch "Copy."

  • Hold your finger down in the form for which you want to paste the copied text. The "Paste" button appears.

  • Touch "Paste." The text pastes.
