How to Disable iPhone Contacts From Syncing

The iPhone includes a native application called "Contacts" that organizes your contacts' email addresses and phone numbers. In addition to allowing you to add contacts directly through the iPhone, the Contacts app also pulls data from your desktop's contact organizer through iTunes. To disable the exchange between your iPhone and your computer's contact organizer, you must change the sync configurations in iTunes.

  • Connect the wide end of the iPhone's USB connector cord to the bottom of the device, and connect the thin end of the cable to your computer's USB port.

  • Click the "Start" icon in the task bar. Type "iTunes" and press "Enter" to launch iTunes.

  • Click the "iPhone" icon in the left side bar of iTunes to open the iPhone settings pane.

  • Click "Info" in the iPhone settings pane to open the "Info" tab.

  • Deselect the check box adjacent to "Sync Address Book Contacts." ITunes' contact sync function is disabled.
