Installing a three-light vanity light over your mirror in the bathroom gives you more light and reduces shadows that can affect your grooming. Shadows could cause you to miss a spot as you shave or apply too little or too much make up. Replacing a single light fixture with a multi-light fixture can brighten your entire bathroom. Hampton Bay is a proprietary brand of the Home Depot and produces several styles of three-light vanity lights.
Things You'll Need
- 5 mm drill bit
- Phillips or slotted screwdriver
- Wire connectors
- Electrical tape
Assemble the Hampton Bay three-light vanity light fixture. Unscrew the socket rings from the three sockets with your fingers and install the light shades onto the sockets. Replace the socket rings to hold the shades onto the fixture and install the light bulbs into the sockets.
Turn off the breaker supplying the electricity to the vanity light installation location. Place the Hampton Bay vanity light mounting bracket onto the wall over the electrical box in the wall. Mark the four keyhole openings in each corner of the mounting bracket onto the wall.
Drill 5 mm holes in the wall at each marked location. Insert the four plastic anchors that came with the Hampton Bay three-light vanity into the holes you drilled in the wall.
Insert the four mounting screws into the anchors and twist them by hand, lightly installing them into the anchors. Slip the mounting bracket onto the screws through the keyhole slots. Tighten the screws into the anchors, securing the mounting bracket to the wall.
Wrap the bare copper ground wire from the three-light vanity around the green ground screw attached to the mounting bracket. Wrap the bare copper wires from the electrical box in the wall around the ground screw on the vanity mounting bracket. Tighten the green ground screw to hold both ground wires to the bracket.
Connect the white wire from the Hampton Bay three-light vanity to the white wire from the electrical box by twisting a wire connector onto the two wires. Connect the black wire from the three-light vanity to the black wire from the electrical box in the wall with an additional wire connector. Secure the wire connectors to both sets of wires by wrapping the connectors and wires with electrical tape.
Slide the vanity fixture onto the two mounting screws attached to the mounting bracket. Twist the decorative lock nuts onto the two mounting screws protruding through the fixture until tight, securing the three-light vanity to the wall. Turn the vanity light circuit breaker back on, supplying electricity to the Hampton Bay three-light vanity.
