How to Move to the Next Column in OpenOffice Writer


OpenOffice Writer is a free, open source word processor that is a part of the OpenOffice productivity suite of software. You can place columns in any Writer document. When you get to the end of a column the text automatically moves to the next column. You can move the text to the next column without filling the first column by placing a break where you want the text to end.

  • Open the OpenOffice Writer document.

  • Place your cursor at the end of the text in the first column.

  • Click on the "Insert" menu at the top of the screen.

  • Click on the "Menu Break" menu option.

  • Click on the "Column break" radio button.

  • Click on the "OK" button to move the cursor to the next column.
