How to Lock Up a Facebook Account

A user may choose to lock up his Facebook account due to receiving too many emails and requests or if they have privacy concerns about sharing too much information online. Other users use Facebook for some time but feel it is not longer useful, or that it occupies too much of their time. It may also be ideal to lock up your Facebook account temporarily if you intend to be away from the Internet for an extended period of time and it may be difficult to manage your account while absent.

  • Open your Web browser.

  • Navigate to Facebook.

  • Enter your email address and password and click the "Login" button if you are not already signed in.

  • Click "Account" in the top-right corner of the page and select "Account Settings."

  • Click the "Deactivate" link found to the right of "Deactivate Account" at the bottom of the "Settings" tab.

  • Select from one of the choices under the "Reason for Leaving" section.

  • Click the box for "Email Opt Out" if you do not want to receive any emails from Facebook in the future.

  • Click the "Confirm" button to deactivate and lock up your Facebook account.
