How to Turn off the Volume on a VTech Phone Base

Sometimes you just don't want to hear the telephone ring. While pressing the "End" button on your cordless handset will prevent one part of the phone from ringing; the base -- where the phone sits and charges -- will still ring. Fortunately, VTech phones, like many other cordless phone makers, created a feature that allows you to turn the volume of the phone base either up or down. Turning the volume down on your phone base takes only a matter of seconds once you know what to look for.

Method 1

  • Press the "Menu" button, if you have one, on your phone's base.

  • Use the "Up" or "Down" arrows to navigate to the "Ringers" option on the LCD menu display. Press the "Select" soft key to choose the "Ringers" option.

  • Push the "Up" or "Down" arrows to select either "Line 1," "Line 2" or "Lines 1&2." Press the "Select" soft key after deciding which line you want to adjust the volume on.

  • Hit the "Down" arrow key to turn down the volume. The LCD screen will display a meter, representing the loudness of the ringer.

  • Press the "Set" soft key once you've chosen the desired ringer level. Your base ringer level is now set.

Method 2

  • Locate the "Volume" button on the phone base.

  • Press the "Down" arrow on the volume button to turn the volume down.

  • Listen for a beep after each time you press the "Down" arrow. These beeps represent the loudness of the base ringer. If the base ringer is muted, you will hear an electronic voice say "Base ringer is off."
