Cox Communications offers both digital and standard cable television. You will receive a universal remote with your cable or DVR box. This universal remote allows you to control your cable box, DVR, TV, DVD player and sound system using one device. You can watch live TV, browse through Cox Communication's On Demand program list or watch shows you recorded on your DVR. You can also play, stop and fast forward through a DVD without having to use a second remote.

  • Press the "Power" button on your TV. Press the "Power" button on the universal remote, then press the "TV" button on the remote.

  • Press and hold the "Setup" button on the remote until the "TV" button lights up and blinks twice. Enter the manufacturer's code for your TV using the number pad on the remote. The "TV" button will blink twice on your remote to verify that you entered the code correctly.

  • Push the "Power" button on your DVD player. Press the "Power" button on your remote, followed by the "DVD" button.

  • Press and hold the "Setup" button until the "DVD" key blinks. Use the number pad on the remote to enter in the manufacturer's code for your DVD player. Verify that the "DVD" button blinks twice. Repeat this process for your sound system, if applicable.

  • Hit the "Power" button to turn on your TV. Press and hold the "Power" button to turn on every device you programmed.

  • Press the "Cable" button to access your cable box, then the "Guide" button to open the on-screen scheduling guide.

  • Use the cursor keys to navigate through the program guide. Press "Select" to view a channel.

  • Press the "On Demand" button to access Cox's On Demand menu. Use the cursor keys to navigate through your on demand viewing options.

  • Tap the "DVR" button to access your DVR menu. Use the cursor keys to scroll to a recorded television show or movie. Press the "Select" button to view a recording.

  • Press the "Live" button to return to live programming.

  • Press the positive and negative volume buttons to control the volume on your TV.

  • Use the positive and negative channel buttons to manually change channels on your TV.

  • Hit the "DVD" button to access your DVD player.

  • Push the "Play" button to start a DVD movie. Press the "Stop" button to stop playing a DVD.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Cox universal remote comes pre-programmed to work with your cable or DVR box. You do not need to manually program these devices.
  • Check your batteries frequently. Replace the batteries with two AA size batteries when needed.
  • Do not expose your remote to water or high temperatures; both can ruin the device.
