If you need a small box to hold items such as pens or paper clips, try making one at home out of Perler beads, also known as Hama beads. Things are simple to make with Perler beads because to connect them into solid, flat pieces, all you need to do is use a regular clothes iron. You will need to use a special technique to turn them into a three-dimensional object. Find Perler beads in different colors at a craft store or where crafts supplies are sold.
Things You'll Need
- Perler beads
- Perler bead pegboard
- Ironing board
- Ironing paper
- Hot glue
- Hot glue gun
Create a square Perler bead pattern on a square pegboard. Make the square any size you want one of the sides of the box to be.
Place the pegboard on an ironing table with a piece of ironing paper on top. Heat up a clothes iron to medium heat and apply it to the ironing paper over the beads in circular motions for 10 seconds. Wait 1 minute for the beads to cool all the way.
Turn the pegboard over to remove the square you just made. Make another square just like it and iron the beads together. Make two more squares that are the same same height as the first two, but one column of beads thinner at the width. Iron another square that is one column smaller on all sides for the bottom of the box.
Apply a thin line of hot glue to the edges of the sides and connect them together. When gluing one side to another, hold them together for 1 minute to let the glue harden in place. Apply glue to all four edges of the bottom piece and slide it into one opening until it is flush with the bottom edge of the sides. Hold it for 1 minute. Wait 30 minutes before using your Perler bead box.
