How to Send a Text With the Google Voice Android App

Google Voice is a Web service that allows you to sign up for a phone number and have that number ring all of the other phones you own. You can also send text messages from your Google Voice number, either through the Google Voice website or by using the Google Voice for Android application. The Android app provides an experience much like standard text messaging so you can always keep in touch when you are on the go. Sending a text message with the Google Voice Android app is not difficult and involves just a few steps.

  • Tap the "Google Voice" icon on the home screen of your phone to open the Google Voice application. If the icon does not appear on your home screen, press the "Applications" button near the bottom of the screen to show all of the apps installed on your phone. Scroll through and tap on "Google Voice" to open it.

  • Press the "Menu" button (which looks like a drop-down box) on your Android phone and select "Compose."

  • Type the name or number of the person you'd like to text. If the contact is stored in your phone, the Google Voice app will offer one or more suggestions that you can tap.

  • Enter your message into the "Type to compose" field. When finished, tap "Send."
