How to Reference E-medicine Articles

Save

Knowing how to cite all sources used in a paper can be difficult, but by following the guidelines set forward by the American Psychological Association (APA), citing eMedicine can be done in a few steps. Because eMedicine is a website, you will treat any article quoted or paraphrased from the site as an article in a website. Try to find sources written by those holding a Ph.D. or M.D. to legitimize the source. (Resource 1)

  • Determine the author(s) of the article. The citation will begin with the first listed author's last name, followed by a comma and the first initial. List the remaining authors in the same manner, separating the final two with an ampersand (&): Author, A., & Author, B. (Reference 1) If no author is available, "cite the source by its title in the signal phrase or use the first word or two in the parentheses." (Reference 2)

  • Type an opening parenthesis. Inside the parentheses, write the date of publication. Close the parentheses, followed by a period. (Reference 3) If no date is available, "use (n.d.) for no date." (Reference 1)

  • Insert the title of the article, followed by a period. (Reference 3)

  • Write "Retrieved from:" followed by the complete URL for the document's website. There is no closing period. (Reference 1)
