How to Save a Slideshow in PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 allows you to create slideshow presentations that can contain text, images, sounds, videos and even animation. Normally, when you open a PowerPoint file, it opens up in the PowerPoint program ready for you to edit it. If you want to send the presentation to someone else, you may want it to just start playing as a slideshow instead of opening up in the editor. PowerPoint contains a separate file format that you can save the presentation as so that it will start the presentation automatically whenever someone accesses the file.

  • Double-click on the PowerPoint presentation file that you want to save as a slideshow. This will open the file in the PowerPoint 2010 program.

  • Select the "File" tab at the top of the PowerPoint window. Click "Save As" from the list of options on the left side of the screen.

  • Type in a name for the slideshow into the "File Name" field. Click the drop-down arrow next to the "Save as Type" field and choose "PowerPoint Show" from the list of options. If your presentation contains macros in Visual Basic, choose "PowerPoint Macro-enabled Show" instead.

  • Navigate to the folder where you want to save the file, and click "Save." The presentation is now saved as a slideshow.
