GE Ice Maker Kit Installation Instructions

Save

GE sells ice maker kits for installation in its refrigerators. These can be used to replace an older ice maker, a malfunctioning one or installing an ice maker where there wasn't one previously. GE ice maker kit installation instructions are fairly straightforward and do not require any specialized tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Utility knife
  • Unplug the refrigerator. If you cannot reach the cord, turn off the power for the refrigerator at the main circuit breaker. The refrigerator light will no longer go on when the door is opened when the power has been shut off correctly.

  • Use a sharp utility knife to cut the fill tube extension to the proper length for your refrigerator model. Slide the extension over the end of the fill tube.

  • Use a screwdriver to remove the screw and electrical cover located on the rear side of the freezer compartment.

  • Place the GE ice maker kit in the freezer compartment on its side. Plug the electrical cord from the ice maker into the socket in the back of the freezer.

  • Lift the GE ice maker off the floor of the freezer. Insert the fill tube extension into the fill cup on the back of the ice maker. Align the ice maker so that the screw holes on the side match up with the screw holes in the side of the freezer compartment. Hold the ice maker with one hand. Insert the screws through the ice maker mounting brackets and into the screw sockets on the side of the freezer. Make sure that the cord for the electrical socket and fill tube haven't fallen out of place while you are working.

  • Place the ice maker bucket underneath the ice maker. Adjust the shelf below, if needed.

  • Turn on the water supply for the freezer water line, if needed. This is usually located at the nearest sink.

  • Throw away the ice from the first few batches, or sprinkle them on your lawn. This will clear out any manufacturing residue or other material from inside the ice maker system.

Tips & Warnings

  • The above steps are just a guideline. Follow the specific instructions for your GE ice maker model.
