How to Make a Circle Using Adobe Illustrator C4

Save

Adobe's Illustrator vector graphics creation and editing program includes a set of drawing tools that let you draw pre-defined shapes in an image. While Illustrator includes tools for drawing complicated objects like polar grids, spirals and stars, it does not have a circle-drawing tool per se. To draw a circle in an Illustrator image, use the Ellipse tool in combination with a keyboard command. This technique creates a perfectly symmetrical circle for your vector graphic.

  • Double-click the Illustrator desktop icon to launch the program.

  • Click and hold the "Rectangle" tool button in the left-hand toolbar. Select the "Ellipse" tool, which looks like an oval, from the menu that opens. Alternately, press the "L" key to enable the Ellipse tool.

  • Press and hold the "Shift" key. Click inside the image window and drag the mouse to make a perfect circle.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can specify precise dimensions by entering a number into the "Width" box, then clicking "Height."
