Just because 2010 was the Year of the Tiger in Chinese Astrology, doesn't mean it's too late for you or your kids to make tiger-related crafts. A tiger mask made out of a paper plate is an uncomplicated craft that could be a vital part of your kid's tiger costume, or make it just for fun. If you do not have paper plates, you can cut out cardboard of similar size and shape, or use disposable plastic lids.
Things You'll Need
- Paper plate
- Paint, orange and black
- Black and/or orange marker (optional)
- Black pipe cleaners
- Hole punch
- Elastic band / string
Paint the entire back of the paper plate orange. Glue orange construction paper to the plate if you do not have orange paint. Let the orange paint dry for a few minutes, depending on the kind of paint you are using. Paint on black stripes horizontally, or use black marker. Let it dry completely.
Paint on the nose and mouth, or use black marker. Cut out diamond-shaped eye holes just above the center of the plate. Keep the cutouts aside.
Use six black pipe cleaners for the whiskers and cut to length, varying between 2 and 6 inches (or longer, if you prefer). Glue the pipe cleaners near the nose. Use the eye cut-outs as ears, gluing them to the top of the head.
Hole punch both sides of the face. Use scissors to poke holes if you do not have a hole punch. Tie the ends of an elastic band or string through both holes for fitting.
