How to Get a Garmin Nuvi to Pair With a Bluetooth


Garmin sells several Nuvi GPS units designed for vehicular navigation. These models range from the low-end, basic navigation features to more advanced models that include Bluetooth, among other things. The Bluetooth feature lets you sync your mobile phone with the Nuvi, allowing for hands-free phone operation so that when you get a call, you can tap "Answer" and start talking. The Nuvi's speaker picks up your voice. Set your Nuvi to pairing mode to find your phone's signal and sync the devices.

  • Place your mobile phone into Bluetooth discovery mode. Consult your device's manual for instructions if necessary.

  • Turn on the Nuvi and tap "Tools" after the main menu opens.

  • Tap "Settings " and various device options open. Scroll down and tap "Bluetooth."

  • Tap the check box next to the "Bluetooth" button and tap "Enabled." Then tap "OK."

  • Tap "Change/Add" in the "Connection/Phone" category of the "Bluetooth" menu.

  • Tap "Add Device" from the next prompt and tap "OK" twice. A list appears of mobile devices set to discovery mode.

  • Tap your mobile phone's listing from the discovery list and tap "OK." Type "1234" when the passkey prompt appears.
