How to Fold the Letter "M" With Money

Origami is best known for making swans, birds, and other creatures via the art of paper folding; but you also can make simpler figures, such as letters, with some simple folds. You can create the letter "M" with a one-dollar bill.

Things You'll Need

  • Dollar bill.

Folding the Letter "M"

  • Fold the bill in half length-wise twice. These folds should be parallel to the top and bottom of the bill, so that you have a strip the same length as the bill, but only a quarter of the height.

  • Crease the bill in the middle, to set up the folds for the point of the M.

  • Diagonally fold the bill upward so that the bottom of the strip you were holding is now aligned with the crease you just made in the middle. Repeat on both sides - it will now look like a triangle pointing down with two long strips going up from it.

  • Diagonally fold both of the upward strips outward, so that the edges of the strips touch the triangle. You should now have a triangle facing down, forming the center, with two strips going out to the side, one in each direction.

  • Take one of the strips, and fold it over, so that the strip faces inward and another small triangle is formed on top of the larger one. Fold the strip over the hypotenuse of the new small triangle, so that the strip points down and forms one of the legs.

  • Repeat the previous for the other strip to form the other leg of the M. You should now have a fully formed M.

Tips & Warnings

  • This activity can be done by just folding the bill. Do not rip the bill or cut it in any way.
