How to Make Jewelry From Baby Teeth

How to Make Jewelry From Baby Teeth thumbnail
Preserve your child's baby teeth as a permanent keepsake.

The loss of baby teeth is a major rite of passage in a child's life, signifying a key physical transition of growth and change. To commemorate this occasion, transform the teeth into a permanent keepsake. Baby teeth are small and pearl-like, making them an attractive centerpiece and inspiration for a necklace design. Feature the teeth in a liquid vial pendant to preserve the teeth and avoid the hassle of gluing them or drilling them with holes.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the screw cap to the top center of the cork (the top of the cork is the wide end).

    • 2

Thoroughly wash the tooth (or teeth) using a stiff toothbrush, soap and water. Rinse when finished and towel dry.

    • 3

Place the tooth in the bottom of the miniature glass bottle.

    • 4

Fill the bottle with mineral oil covering the tooth, leaving about 1/4 inch of the bottle unfilled at the top.

    • 5

Cap the bottle with the cork. Press the cork as far into the mouth as you can; ideally, you shouldn't be able to easily pull it back out again, if at all.

    • 6

Wipe down the bottle with a damp paper towel and dish soap to remove any oil from the outside of the bottle. Rinse and towel dry the bottle. Let it sit for an hour so that the cork can fully air-dry.

    • 7

Seal the cork with a thin layer of silicone adhesive. For best results, apply it in a thin ring around the top of the cork and and mouth of the bottle. Spread it near the screw cap, as well.

    • 8

Let the silicone adhesive cure according to manufacturer's instructions. To ensure a strong seal, do not touch it or let it get wet during this time.

    • 9

String the bottle pendant onto the jewelry chain.

    • 10

Attach the metal charm to the ring on the screw cap using the jump ring and needle-nosed pliers.

    • 11

Write the name of your baby and date the tooth was lost on the jar using silver permanent marker.
