Things You'll Need

  • Anti-bacterial soap

  • Bleach

  • Drill

  • Needle nose pliers

  • Jump ring

  • Ear wires, chain or cord or bracelet

A shark tooth pendant is probably the most common type of tooth jewelry.

Making jewelry from teeth may sound a bit macabre to some, but that all depends on where you get the teeth. You can purchase shark teeth to make jewelry. Some people also use the tooth of a pet if one falls out, or even make a sentimental keepsake from a child's baby tooth. As long as you practice proper hygiene, you can actually use just about any tooth, even ones that have been pulled by a dentist or your wisdom teeth, provided you can talk the dentist or oral surgeon into giving them to you.

Step 1

Clean and sanitize the tooth. Wash it with anti-bacterial soap and hot water. For good measure, soak it in a hydrogen peroxide solution until it reaches the color you desire.

Step 2

Drill a small hole in the tooth. This is delicate, especially with a small tooth because it can crack and split. Don't drill too close to the edge, and use the smallest bit size you can in which you can still get your jump ring through it. Drill slowly and steadily.

Step 3

Slide a metal jump ring through the hole you drilled. A jump ring is a small metal ring with an open side that can be purchased anywhere jewelry-making or craft supplies are sold. Open the ring with a pair of needle nose pliers, slide it through the tooth and squeeze it closed again.

Step 4

String the jump ring onto a chain or cord for a necklace, attach it to an ear wire for an earring or add it to a charm bracelet.

Tip

If you don't think you will be able to drill through the tooth you have, wrap a thin flexible piece of wire around the tooth and connect that to the jump ring.
