While leafing through your favorite fashion magazine, or perusing the skincare aisle of your drugstore, you've probably noticed the plethora of products designed to reduce or even eliminate cellulite. Many of these cellulite-reducing potions have one active ingredient in common, and that is caffeine. Caffeine is renowned for its skin-tightening properties and truly seems to make a difference in the appearance of the skin on your butt and thighs. However, many of these products come at a fairly high price. The good news is you can make your own cellulite-reducing body scrub using ingredients you probably already have in your own kitchen.

Things You'll Need

  • Coffee grounds
  • Grapeseed, almond or olive oil
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder (optional)

Start the day with freshly brewed coffee; it tastes best, after all. Save the leftover grounds; this is going to provide the caffeine for your body scrub and also create its texture.

Combine the coffee grounds in a small bowl or jar with the cinnamon and cocoa if you have chosen to add these ingredients. Add enough oil to create a thick paste and mix well.

Run yourself a hot bath; the heat will open the pores of your skin and help your homemade scrub to be better absorbed. Standing or kneeling in your tub, apply the coffee scrub to your buttocks and thighs. Scrub vigorously. This will rev up your skin's circulation, bring blood to the surface, and also soften and exfoliate these areas. Soak in your bath, leaving the scrub on for at least 15 minutes. Do not be alarmed at the coffee color of your bath water; you are simply allowing the caffeine to do its work.

Rinse off the scrub. Get out of the bath and notice how soft and smooth the skin of your buttocks and thighs now is. You'll probably want to wash your tub, but you'll discover the coffee scrub washes off quite easily. Repeat this process at least three times a week. Over time you will notice the diminished appearance of cellulite. Congratulate yourself for having made this effective body treatment for pennies.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can control the texture of your scrub by selecting the grind you want for your coffee. An espresso or drip grind will make a fine-textured scrub; a french press grind will make a coarser scrub. It's best to grind your own beans fresh, but pre-ground beans will also work.
  • Because this scrub is oily it can make your tub slippery. Take care.
