How to Take Apart a Daiwa Baitcast Reel

Save

Before cleaning your Daiwa baitcast reel or performing any necessary maintenance on it, you must take it apart. While disassembling a Daiwa baitcast reel is not difficult, always exercise extreme care in doing so -- losing a part can affect the operation of the entire reel. Take apart your Daiwa baitcast reel and clean it at least once a year.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Towel
  • Find the knobs or screws that hold the side of the reel opposite the handle to the body. Spin the knobs or turn the screws counterclockwise until they are loose enough that you can remove the plate on the side of the reel.

  • Locate the spool assembly that the plate covered. Pull the assembly out from inside the reel.

  • Find the bolt or screw that affixes the reel handle to the reel. Loosen it by turning it counterclockwise. With the screw removed, pull the handle from the reel.

  • Turn the star-shaped piece of metal or plastic counterclockwise. Once it is loose enough, remove it from the reel.

  • Check the handle-side of the reel for screws. Remove them, then pull the plate off the reel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place each piece on a towel after you remove it. This will help you keep track of the parts of the reel as you take it apart.
