How to Make a Super Hero Belt

Kids love dressing up as their favorite super hero or creating a new super hero persona of their own. Provide them with a cape and mask to start. Whether they fly, ride a motorcycle or use webs to get around, every super hero needs his or her own special equipment to help them battle injustice. With this equipment attached to their super hero belt, they are prepared to fight crime and bring peace to the universe.

Things You'll Need

  • Fabric
  • Belt with buckle
  • Fabric glue
  • Small cardboard cereal boxes
  • Mint tins
  • Spray paint
  • Assorted colored permanent markers
  • Paint brush
  • Velcro tape
  • Select a fabric that suits the super hero costume. The fabric will cover the actual belt to coordinate with the costume. Heavy cottons or felt are appropriate for this purpose.

  • Wrap the belt with the fabric, leaving access to the hole needed for buckling and the buckle. You will place the belt on the child with the buckle on their back, so the super hero gadgets show in front. Glue the fabric to the inside of the belt.

  • Spray an assortment of small boxes and tins with silver or black spray paint and allow to dry. These containers will be used either as make-believe gadgets or to hold play gadgets.

  • Decorate the boxes to look like gadgets for communication, weapons and other super hero equipment. Draw designs, symbols and emblems with assorted colors of permanent markers. Small cereal boxes work well to carry play cell phones, walkie-talkies and other items that will become the super hero's equipment.

  • Attach a strip of Velcro tape to the back of each box and tin. Secure the tape to the front of the belt, positioning each container where it is easily accessible to the child.
