Stuffed animals made from patchwork fabric can add a charming, rustic touch to any room. Use quilting scraps or purchased fabric for your animal.

Things You'll Need

  • Buttons
  • Stuffed Animal Patterns
  • Old Clothes
  • Calico Fabrics
  • Fiberfill
  • Scrap Fabrics
  • Sewing Machine
  • Sewing Needles
  • Thimbles
  • Threads
  • Yarns
  • Scissors
  • Internet Access
  • Choose a pattern for your stuffed animal. Patterns can be found on the Internet, in fabric stores and in pattern books. Bears, elephants, and donkeys are all good choices!

  • Start with a simple pattern and progress to more complex projects once you have gained some experience.

  • Purchase project items such as buttons, thread, yarn, fiberfill or other materials listed in the pattern instructions.

  • Gather your fabric scraps, old clothes and/or purchased fabric. Make sure that all fabric has been prewashed.

  • Cut fabric into 2- to 3-inch squares and join them to make a piece of fabric large enough for your project. See "How to Make Patchwork" for instructions on cutting and piecing the patchwork squares.

  • Proceed with the pattern instructions and use your patchwork fabric for the body of the stuffed animal in place of any other designated fabric.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use calicos and denims if you need to purchase fabric for your patchwork animal.
  • Remember to include a seam allowance (3/8 inch or 5/8 inch) when cutting your fabric squares.
