How to Draw a King's Crown thumbnail
A king's crown traditionally is made from gold.

Use your imagination to draw a king's crown with a design that is as flamboyant and glamorous as possible. Crowns represent the authority, wealth and style of kings, so they are symbolic of these characteristics. Often, kings are depicted with large crowns covered in jewels, with spires protruding from their perimeters. Drawing a crown is easy, but make sure you have plenty of colored pencils available to represent different jewels and precious metals.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the pencil to outline of the base of the crown on the paper: a long, thin oval, drawn horizontally.

    • 2

Draw an oval identical to the one drawn in Step 1, one inch above it. This will give the impression of depth. If you make mistakes, use the eraser to rub them out. Repeat the attempt.

    • 3

Add a large triangle at the front of the crown, stretched across the top oval. This will give the crown height and the look of grandeur. Crowns were intended to make kings' heads look bigger and this will help to achieve that..

    • 4

Draw jewels, including a large, kite-shaped one for a diamond, in the triangle. Surround each with small circles to represent smaller gemstones like rubies or pearls.

    • 5

Draw a large jewel at the top of the triangle.

    • 6

Continue to decorate the crown by drawing gemstones. These can be represented as a series of circles varying in size and color, lined across the base of the crown.

    • 7

Color in the crown. Use bright yellow for the crown itself, then enhance the gemstones by using deep reds, purples, bright greens, etc..

Tips & Warnings

  • Enhance your king's crown by sticking glitter around the base of the crown. This will make it twinkle in the light, like real gemstones.

  • Draw a king's crown with young children and teach them about history at the same time.
