The Best Way to Pack Moving Boxes
Moving can either be an exciting and stressful time. Getting your belongings to your new destination is likely one of the biggest worries. Although large items are best handled by professional movers, you can save a lot of money by packing smaller items into cardboard boxes and shipping them in the car. Packing your belongings properly requires good organization. Placing items in the wrong order in a box, or packing things improperly, can cause a lot of breakage. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Cardboard boxes
- Wardrobe boxes
- Padded dish boxes
- Packing tape
- Newspaper
- Packing wrap
- Permanent marker

Set items in your house out by type. Set fragile items together, appliances together and heavier items together in the rooms they are currently in.

Wrap all fragile items with plastic bubble wrap to protect the outside of the piece. Stuff the inside of hollow fragile items with newspaper to keep the item from caving in. Pack hollow items on the top of the box to keep pressure off. Fill the empty portions of the box of fragile items with newspaper.

Place heavy items in small boxes. Pack the largest item at the bottom of the box and stack up to the smaller items. Keep the weight of each box less than 50 pounds.

Place items in the boxes appropriate for the object. Place clothes in wardrobe boxes and dishes in padded dish boxes. Specialized moving boxes are available from many online retailers as well as shipping supply stores.

Close the boxes with packing tape. Apply tape between the two flaps to close the flaps. Apply two pieces of tape on the ends of the flaps to hold them down securely. Write the room the box is from and a short description of the items inside. Write fragile on the outside of fragile boxes.

Tips & Warnings
Do not pack large boxes with lots of heavy items. Heavy items might break the box.
