Adjusting the pressure in the home may be necessary if you are only receiving a dribble from the spout.

In most areas of the United States, it is a plumbing requirement to have a pressure reducing valve installed in the home to prevent explosive water pressure from your household fittings. It is possible to reduce or increase the pressure too much, even with one fitted. You can adjust the water pressure to your home by manipulating the pressure reducing valve, or PRV. Always check the manufacturer's pressure recommendations to gain the maximum efficiency from your valve. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the adjustment screw for the PRV, which will be located on top or to the back of the valve.

    • 2

Turn the valve screw clockwise to increase the pressure from the PRV, and counter-clockwise to reduce the pressure. Turn the screw a one-quarter turn at a time to prevent damage to the system.

    • 3

Check the pressure gauge of the PRV while adjusting it to get it to the right pressure. If the PRV does not have a gauge, turn on the water in the home after each adjustment to check the pressure.
