How to Install a Hot Air Heating Duct

Adding a heating duct to your remodeling project can make a real difference in the comfort of an enclosed space. Ducting moves air from the heat source to its delivery point, providing heated air where you need it most. Regardless of the space, adding a heating duct during remodeling will keep you out of the cold.

Things You'll Need

  • Flexible ducting
  • Screwdriver
  • Clamps
  • Measure the distance from the heat source to the air vent to determine the length of heating duct needed.

  • Cut flexible duct work to length. Use heavy shears to cut the duct, and snip the internal coiled wire with wire cutters.

  • Attach duct to the heat source flange.

  • Place a large clamp or heavy tie wrap over one end of the duct and secure it to the flange on the heat source.

  • Attach duct to the air vent.

  • Use another clamp to attach the ducting to the air vent flange and secure mid point of duct to studs, rafters or floor joists as appropriate.
