How to Clean With a Wet Vacuum
A wet vacuum--sometimes referred to as a wet/dry vacuum--is designed to handle wet spills and messes which could damage or clog a standard vacuum cleaner. This means you can vacuum up food spills, wet paper or leaves or even water. In addition to cleaning up wet substances, most wet vacuums can also be used to clean up dirt or dust--but you will probably need to install a special filter for this purpose. Plug in your wet vacuum and turn on the power switch.

Use the vacuum's hose to remove all wet messes. You can remove both liquids and wet solids such as paper, mulch or leaves.

Turn off the wet vacuum and unplug it from the electrical outlet.

Remove the vacuum's tank cover. This is usually the entire top of the wet vacuum.

Locate the foam sleeve on your wet vacuum. This is often located on the underside of the tank cover around the intake port. If your wet vacuum does not use a foam sleeve, skip to step 7.

Remove the foam sleeve and rinse it thoroughly under cool running water. Air-dry the sleeve completely and return it to the vacuum cleaner. If you want to start cleaning again immediately, purchase another foam sleeve so you won't have to wait.

Empty the wet vacuum tank and wipe it dry with a clean towel.

Place a filter on your wet vacuum. Usually, the filter goes over the intake port and is held in place by a ring or band.

Return the tank cover to your wet vacuum and plug it into an electrical outlet.

Turn the wet vacuum on and use the hose to remove any dry debris such as dirt or dust.

Tips & Warnings
Always empty the wet vacuum after each use.
Do not use a wet vacuum to clean flammable substances such as oil-based paint or gasoline. This could cause an explosion.
