My GE Profile Dishwasher Won't Fill With Water

Avoid potentially expensive repair visits by troubleshooting your General Electric Profile series dishwasher at home. The dishwasher may not fill with water due to problems with the water supply, the power supply or the wash cycle. General Electric provide tips for fixing this problem without the need for tools or repair experience. Troubleshooting your General Electric dishwasher will take about 15 minutes. Some details will vary depending on your exact model of dishwasher.

  • Verify the dishwasher's power supply. Check that the power cable is firmly inserted into an outlet, the appliance is switched on at the wall (if necessary) and you have pressed the "Start/Reset" button. Plug a lamp or other small appliance into the dishwasher's outlet to check for power. Check your fuse box if the outlet is dead.

  • Check the dishwasher's water supply. Ensure that both hot and cold water shutoff valves behind the dishwasher are open and the water pipes are free of kinks and knots. The dishwasher will not be able to start cleaning unless it can draw water from the mains. Try your cleaning cycle again after you open the water supply.

  • Ensure that the dishwasher door is closed and the controls are unlocked. General Electric Profile dishwashers will not fill unless the door is tightly closed so water does not spill out of the machine. Press and hold the "Heated Dry" button for several seconds to unlock the controls. The small LED above "LOCK" will go out. The dishwasher will not respond if the controls are locked.

  • Call for repair if these steps fail to resolve the problem, as you may be experiencing a more complex problem with your dishwasher. See Resources for General Electric's contact information.
