How to Make Vinyl Decals With a Monogram Machine

Create customized vinyl decals in your own home using a monogram machine. A monogram machine, like the Cricut Expression, can create vinyl decals that you can use on a variety of surfaces from walls to glass and even on automobiles. Vinyl decals are quite popular because of their versatility. Decals can be applied to surfaces easily and taken off just as easily.

Things You'll Need

  • Cricut Expression machine
  • Vinyl sheet (your choice of color)
  • Place your vinyl sheet onto your cutting mat. Be sure that you are using the correct size for your cutting mat. Make sure that your vinyl is firmly adhered to the mat before loading it into the Cricut Expression machine.

  • Load the mat into the Cricut Expression machine. Load into your die cutter by firmly holding it against the feeder and pressing the 'Load Paper' button.

  • Set your blade depth to a '6' and the pressure at '2' or '3' depending on the type of vinyl, according to the Arts n Crafts Bug website. The Cricut Expression machine can make cuts ranging in size from 1/4 to 23-1/2 inches so your vinyl decals can range in those sizes.

  • Lay out your design and press the 'cut' button. Once the machine has finished, press the 'Unload Paper' button which will eject the mat from the Cricut Expression machine.

  • Be careful when removing the cutouts from the mat. Once removed, you can apply your vinyl decals to the surface of your choice.
