Buying Halloween costumes year after year for your children can become costly. A budget-friendly alternative is to make Halloween costumes at home. You can be original with your costume, or stick to classic patterns. This also allows the children to be creative and help craft the costume. Magician costumes are relatively easy to make and do not take much time to create. In just an hour, you can turn your child into a mighty magician.
Things You'll Need
- Black satin fabric
- Red satin fabric (optional)
- 2 pieces of red satin ribbon, 14 inches long
- Wooden dowel
- Black paint
- White paint
- White T-shirt
- Red fabric marker
- Black fabric marker
- Stuffed bunny
- Top hat
- Silk carnation
- Black suit jacket
- Black pants
- White gloves (optional)
Make the cape. Measure the length between your child's neck and just above his knee. Cut a long piece of black satin fabric at this length. At the bottom of the cape, cut out a curved shape. If you wish, you may cut out a copy in red satin and stitch the shapes together, so that the cape is black on the outside and red inside. Stitch one end of the ribbon to one side on the top of the cape, and repeat on the other side with the second ribbon.
Create a magic wand. Take the wooden dowel and paint it black. Wait for the paint to dry. Paint a white stripe at the top end.
Draw a red tie onto the white T-shirt with a red fabric marker. You only need to draw the top half because that will be the only part of the shirt showing. Draw collar lines with a black fabric marker.
Pin the stuffed bunny to the top of the top hat.
Pin the silk carnation to the breast pocket of the black suit jacket.
Dress your child in the T-shirt, suit jacket, black pants and white gloves. Tie together the ribbons on the cape around your child's neck to keep it in place. Put the top hat on and have your child carry the painted wooden dowel.
