My Seat Won't Go Up on My Chevrolet Malibu

Chevrolet Malibu cars can be equipped with manual or electrically-operated front seats. Electrically-operated seats include a height adjustment that's variable and can be altered to suit the height of the driver, or passenger for optimum driving comfort and safety. Seatbacks can also be power adjusted, or manually moved. Problems with the seat not going up in a Chevrolet Malibu can be related to the power assistance not functioning, or obstructions. These kinds of problems can be corrected.

Things You'll Need

  • Fuse kit
  • Press and hold the top or bottom of the switch at the door side of the seat cushion to raise or lower the seat. Let the switch go when the desired height is obtained. If there isn't a switch, the seat is manual and the height can't be adjusted.

  • Check for obstructions if the seat won't go up. If you continue to have problems, replace the seat motor fuse by accessing the panel in the trunk. It's on the driver's side. Replace the fuse in Position 1 if the problem is on the passenger side, and the fuse in Position 2 if the problem is at the driver's side seat. Replace broken fuses with identical fuses.

  • Return the seatback to its upright position if the seat is power assisted by tilting the top of the control forward and the seatback will go up. If the seat back is manually operated, lift the larger lever at the door side without applying pressure to the seat back and the seat back will go up. Push and pull on the seatback to make sure it's locked.
