How to Remove & Repair a Mercedes Window Switch

How to remove the window switch from your Mercedes Benz is a handy procedure to know if you need to fix the electric window's operation. Over time, the wiring connections can become bad or the switch can wear out, and need to be replaced. As many Mercedes Benz models feature wood interiors, prying the switch out to replace and repair it can damage the trim, so it is necessary to remove the interior paneling that houses the switch in order to replace it.

Things You'll Need

  • Philips head screwdriver
  • Remove the ashtray in the center console as if you were going to empty it; this will reveal two screws.

  • Loosen and remove the two screws that were revealed in the previous step by using your Philips head screwdriver.

  • Remove the ashtray holder assembly, which will have been unsecured with the removal of the two screws from Step 2.

  • Disconnect the small wiring harness that is attached to the ashtray holder assembly, then set the assembly aside.

  • Remove the two screws that secure the center console to your Mercedes. These screws sit under the ashtray holder assembly that you removed.

  • Slide the center console assembly out, revealing the window switches.

  • Pry the broken window switch out using your fingers and replace it with the new one. You may also repair any frayed wiring at this time, as you will be able to access the electronics that are connected to the switch assembly.
