How to Remove the Windows on a Jetta

The Volkswagen Jetta is a compact sedan offered by the German car maker for years. Replacing the windows in your Volkswagen Jetta can be a handy procedure to know if you've somehow damaged the glass on your car or had a break-in. While there are auto glass repair shops that can remove the glass paneling for you, you can still do it on your own in about an hour's time using a couple simple tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Philips head screwdriver
  • Torx T20 screwdriver
  • Pry the door handle piece off of the door panel by inserting a flathead screwdriver in between the door handle and the plastic piece that sits at its interior side.

  • Pull the plastic interior piece on the door handle out and then lift the plastic panel which houses the window switch assemblies.

  • Disconnect the wiring harness attached to the window switch assemblies and set panel aside.

  • Remove the three screws at the bottom of your door panel using your T20 screwdriver.

  • Remove the philips head screw that sits at the top edge of the door panel, then pry the door panel off by working your way around the circumference of the door panel.

  • Pull the window seal at the bottom of the window up, starting at the rear-end of the window and working your way towards the front of the window.

  • Locate the small metal hook that is attached to the electric window motor, revealed once the door panel is off, and unhook it from the electric window slider to which it is connected.

  • Remove the window by prying it out from the bottom and pushing up until it has been displaced enough for you to remove the glass panel itself.
