How do I Change a Door Lock on a 92 Chevy Silverado?
The door lock assembly on the 1992 Chevrolet Silverado is contained underneath the interior door trim panel. To access the door lock assembly you have to remove the interior door trim panel. The entire procedure can take a while, but it is straightforward. It should take you approximately one hour to disassemble the interior door trim panel, change the door lock assembly, and reassemble the door.

Turn the Silverado's engine off and open the door on which you will change the door lock assembly.

Using a slotted screwdriver, press hard against the interior door trim panel and pry out the window handle, the armrest, and the door knob.

Remove the clips around the perimeter of the interior door trim panel with a slotted screwdriver. Once the clips are removed, pull the panel off the vehicle and disconnect its wiring harness. This will reveal the door lock assembly.

Remove the three screws securing the door lock assembly to the door and disconnect the exterior handle locking rod from the lock assembly. Use a screwdriver to reach between the window and the door and press down on the top of the lock assembly to disengage it from the door.

Pull the assembly off the door and install a new assembly. Secure the assembly by installing the screws to hold it to the door.

Connect the wiring harness to the door panel and secure the interior door trim panel to the door by reinstalling all of the clips. Reattach the armrest, the window handle, and the door knob.
