Instructions

    • 1

Determine how many Christmas lights you need to hang on your awning. Measure the length of your awning with a measuring tape. Ensure that the lights you purchase will adequately cover that length. Remember that many strings of Christmas lights have excess cord at either end, so you will need to consider that.

Plug the Christmas lights in before you hang them to make sure that they work properly. Replace any bulbs that are blown. Make sure that the strings of lights are not damaged or broken.

    • 3

Slide awning hangers, which are small "S" hooks, over the rod running along the front of the awning. Place these so that they fall between the Christmas lights. For the best results, you should have one for every 10 inches of awning. If the lights swing too much once you have them installed, you can go back and add more awning hangers in between the original ones.

    • 4

Place the string of Christmas lights in the bottom half of the awning hanger, or the bottom of the "S." Gently squeeze the awning hanger with a pair of pliers so that it closes around the light string, securing it in the bottom of the hook. Although you can simply lay the lights in the bottom of the awning hangers, squeezing them shut will ensure that the Christmas lights don't blow out of the hanger.

Continue working along the awning until all of the awning hangers and Christmas lights are installed. To remove the lights, use a pair of pliers to unbend the bottom of the awning hanger. Pull the awning hangers away from the front rod and store them with the lights for next year.
