How to Make a Gambit Costume

Gambit is a member of the X-Men. His power is the ability to turn inanimate objects into animate objects with kinetic energy. He is featured in both the comic series as well as the live-action movie, each featuring a different costume. If you want to dress as Gambit for cosplay or for a costume party, making your own takes little time to complete.

  • Muscle man chest plate
  • Spandex shirt

Comic Book Costume

  • Spray paint a plastic muscle man chest plate with violet spray paint. Spray paint the bottom edge of the chest plate blue. Allow the spray paint to dry completely. Look for chest plates at costume stores and Halloween supply shops. If you have trouble finding a chest plate, wear a spandex, fitted shirt and dye it violet.

  • Cut a 4-inch diameter circle out of blue construction paper or poster board and glue it to the center of the chest plate, just below the neck. If you are not using a chest plate, glue it to the front of the shirt.

  • Cut two lengths of violet purple fabric into 2-inch by 3-inch strips. The original length of the fabric strips depends on the length of your leg. The strips should stretch from your hip down to your calf. Use a sewing machine to sew the cut rectangles to the outside of the legs of a pair of black spandex fitted pants. Place the sewed pieces 1 inch apart.

  • Wear a pair of knee-high boots in a silver color. The other option is to spray paint a pair of boots silver. Also spray paint a pair of knee pads silver and wear them over the top of the boots. Allow all spray paint to dry before wearing the boots or the knee pads.

  • Cut the thumb, index and pinkie finger off of a pair of black leather gloves.

  • Wear a brown chin-length wig. No makeup is necessary.

  • Wear a brown trench coat to finish the look.

Live-Action Movie Costume

  • Wear a black button-up dress shirt.

  • Wear a pair of black pants. They can be black dress pants or black leather pants.

  • Wear black socks and black shoes.

  • Part your hair in the center and allow it to fall around your face. If your hair is not chin length, wear a dark brown wig.

  • Wear a black leather trench coat.

Tips & Warnings

  • Gambit uses cards as a weapon. To add additional detail to your costume, carry a deck of playing cards with you.
  • Gambit's eyes are a searing red. To achieve this effect, wear a pair of red contact lenses.
