How to Make a Paper Camel's Face Mask

Paper masks are fun for parents and kids to make together at home using materials that you probably already have around the house. In addition to being inexpensive, paper masks allow you to create characters that are original and that have their own personalities. A camel paper mask requires only a few supplies to make, as well as a little time to complete. Make sure that you have a clean workspace and gather all of your supplies in advance.

Instructions

  1. Form the Mask

    • 1

Measure the height and width of the person's face that will be wearing the mask with a measuring tape.

    • 2

Mold clay in the form of a camel's face, shaping it to the height and width that correspond to your measurements. Be sure to include the eyes, ears and snout.

    • 3

Mix one part water to one part flour in a bowl.

    • 4

Shred paper and dip the paper strips into the flour and water mixture, coating the strips completely.

    • 5

Apply the wet paper strips to the clay mold of the camel's face. Completely cover the mold, using 3 to 4 layers of paper. Allow the paper to completely dry. Drying may take a few days, depending on room temperature.

    Complete

    • 6

Cut the mask from the mold using a utility knife. Cut behind the ear section of the paper, along the side of the face.

    • 7

Peel off the newspaper from the clay, discarding the back portion of the paper.

    • 8

Cut out the eye sockets using a utility knife, then cut a small space under the snout for breathing.

    • 9

Paint the mask using acrylic paints and a paint brush.

    • 10

Attach a strip of elastic to the side of the mask with a stapler. The elastic should be long enough to wrap around the back of the head to secure the mask.
