Painting wooden eggs

Decorating eggs has been a popular craft for centuries. Coloring Easter eggs is a traditional part of celebrating Easter. Decorated eggs are also a part of the Persian spring festival of Norwooz to celebrate the New Year. Faberge eggs may be the most valuable of all decorated eggs. Painted wood eggs should last a long time, unlike real eggs. You can paint on simple designs or paint intricate patterns.

Instructions

  1. Prepare Wooden Eggs

    • 1

Remove any stickers or labels on the wooden eggs. Wipe them down with a damp cloth to further remove any stickiness from labels. Allow to dry. Paint each egg a different base color using a large shader brush. The best colors if you are doing Easter eggs are pastel shades such as yellow, pink, light blue, pale green, violet and orange.

    • 2

Sprinkle eggs with wet paint with Glamour Dust Crystal if you want any of your eggs to have a sparkle effect. For eggs without a sparkle look, allow the paint to dry.

    • 3

Add wavy stripes or bands of different sizes around eggs as desired using shader brushes and colors of your choice. Add straight-line "V's" side-by-side all the way around an egg. Be creative by painting tiny flowers or bees or anything else you like.

    • 4

Make polka dots on your wooden eggs using the end of a brush or by using the pouncer brush. Apply different colored dots on different eggs using your own color choices. Make different sized dots by using the ends of different sized brush handles.

    • 5

Spray Americana Gloss Spray Sealer evenly over each egg to seal the eggs and prevent chipping or other damage to the paint. Allow eggs to dry completely.

Tips & Warnings

  • Display your colorful wooden eggs in a half dozen egg carton. Put a yellow gift bag filler under each egg to make it look like straw. Make your own color dyes from different kinds of food. Use blueberries for blue dye, cranberries and cherries for red dye, tea or coffee for a brown stain, turmeric or onion skins for a yellow or orange shade, spinach for a green dye and red cabbage for a unique bluish-purple color.
