Instructions

    • 1

Take out your ball of hemp twine. Cut out two twine pieces of equal length from your ball with your scissors. These are the base pieces for your jewelry. You can measure the lengths of each piece with a ruler before you cut them out. You can also cut out a piece with your desired length and roll out your next piece until it is as long as the first piece before you cut. Take the two pieces and stand them up vertically parallel to each other to form your jewelry's base.

    • 2

Cut out two more twine pieces that are at least five or six times longer than the base pieces. For example, if your base pieces are 6 inches long, then you need to cut out two twine pieces that are between 30 and 36 inches long. These two outside pieces are the knotting pieces you'll use to make the spirals for your jewelry.

    • 3

Take one of your knotting pieces and place it lying parallel and to the right of the right base piece, making sure its top end lines up with the right base piece's top end. Take the other knotting piece and place it lying parallel and to the left of the left base piece, ensuring its top end lines up with the left base piece's top end.

Start at the top of your right knotting piece. Pick it up and fold below it over your two base pieces where you want your first knot to be, such as 1 inch below the top end of the right knotting piece. Tuck the end of the right knotting piece under your left knotting piece. Take the end of the left knotting piece and tuck it under the two base pieces. Finish by looping the left knotting piece's end over and on top of your red outside piece. Pull both knotting pieces tight to form your first spiral knot.

    • 5

Start at the top of your left knotting piece. Pick it up and fold below it over your two base pieces where you want your second knot to be, such as one inch below your first knot. Tuck the end of the left knotting piece under your right knotting piece Take the right knotting piece and tuck it under the two base pieces. Finish by pulling the right knotting piece over and on top of the left knotting piece. Pull both knotting pieces tight to form your second spiral knot.

Repeat the preceding two steps to complete the knots for your piece of spiral jewelry. Twist your knotting pieces over one another and tie them together in a knot when you have reached the end of your piece of spiral jewelry.
