My Sears Kenmore 80 Won't Drain or Spin

Although a Kenmore 80 series washer that will not drain or spin certainly puts a damper on your ability to efficiently wash your clothing, this does not necessarily mean that there is something significantly wrong with your appliance. There is a good chance that you only need to make a couple of adjustments to the washer in order to return it to its proper function.

  • Check the height of the drain hose. If the drain hose is more than 96 inches off the floor, the water will not be able to properly drain from it.

  • Check to make sure the washer has a power supply. Check your breaker box to see that the breaker labeled "Washer" is in the "On" position. If it is in the "Off" position, slide it over to "On."

  • Remove the power cord from the extension cord (if you are using an extension cord) and plug the cord straight into the wall outlet.

  • Wait a few moments for the "SUD" code to disappear from the display. The "SUD" code indicates that suds are currently being removed from the washer.

  • Add more items to the washer if there are only a few items in the appliance. Having too few items can cause an imbalance. Imbalances also may be caused by a single, bulky item -- like a blanket. Open the lid and redistribute the bulky item so that it is evenly balanced around the washer drum.
