      Place cosmetics in a fashionable container and let the girls apply the makeup by themselves or to friends. Choose inexpensive makeup from discount or dollar stores; the fun does not have to be expensive.

      Provide some costumes to choose from. Yard sales and thrift stores offer inexpensive selections and fun dress-up ideas, or ask friends if they have clothing items to donate. Provide inexpensive accessories such as feather boas, scarves, jewelry, hats and high-heeled shoes.

      Let the girls put on a fashion show.

      Create an imaginary runway. Have all the girls sit on each side of the "runway" and pick girls from the crowd to take a turn on the runway. Make sure all girls get a turn walking the runway. Add music from a boom box or nearby radio to add to the fun and excitement of the fashion show.

      Take pictures of the "models." Pricey equipment is not needed; use a cell phone other inexpensive method to snap pictures of the party crowd. Pictures can be shared with parents on social pages such as Facebook and Myspace as party souvenirs for the girls.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase small plates and divide up makeup among the girls. Liquid foundation, lip gloss and lipstick samples can be divided up and distributed on plates to prevent contamination. Provide cotton swabs for each girl to use as miniature makeup brushes.

  • Makeup should not be shared and only new cosmetics should be used.
