How to Stop Colors Running From Towels

Save

New vibrantly colored towels can instantly liven up a dull bathroom, but new towel colors can cause problems in the laundry room. New towel colors can bleed and run in the washer and ruin other clothes and linens. You can prevent towel colors from running by pre-soaking your towels.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 gallon warm water
  • Bucket

Stopping Towel Colors from Running

Step 1

Pour warm water, vinegar and salt into a large bucket.

Step 2

Mix gently to dissolve the vinegar and salt into the water.

Step 3

Place a towel into the bucket and submerge entirely.

Step 4

Soak the towel for an hour in the solution.

Step 5

Remove the towel and wring out the remaining solution from the towel.

Step 6

Rinse the towel with cool fresh water.

Step 7

Wash as you would normally, or repeat the hour-long soak if the rinse water shows any of the towel coloring.
