How to Sheet Rock
Sheetrock is a brand of drywall, which is a panel made of gypsum plaster pressed between two thick sheets of paper. Builders often refer to the process of installing drywall as "Sheetrocking." Installing drywall is not complicated, but because the material is heavy and bulky, it requires at least two people to install it. You may need extra help if you have high ceilings. - Utility knife
- Keyhole saw
- Hammer (if using nails)
- Electric drill (if using screws)
- Trowels (6-inch and 10-inch)
- Plaster
- Sanding paper
- Goggles
- Gloves

Hammer down any nails or staples that are sticking out of the wood. Verify that plumbing, wires and insulation have been installed and you can proceed with Sheetrock.

Mark where electrical outlets and switches will be around the room. Use a pencil to draw the outline of an opening on drywall. Use a keyhole saw to cut out the opening.

Measure the distance between the studs and the sheet of drywall. Every sheet should meet another in the middle of a stud. Place a 2x2 board in the space between studs if the sheet doesn't reach the next stud. This often happens in corners where two walls meet. To avoid hanging corners you will need to cut the sheet if it is too wide. Use a knife to score the sheet first and bend it lightly. It will break off along the score line.

Push the sheet against the wall. Place nails or screws in groups of two every 12 to 16 inches into each stud. When placing a nail or screw, create a slight dimple with it in the surface. Draw a line on the sheet of drywall to mark where the stud is. If you miss the stud with a nail, pull it out. Continue installing sheets until you reach a corner.

Install drywall. Nail a drywall corner onto the stud on top of drywall. A drywall corner is an angled metal that protects the corner from bumps, scrapes and wear and tear. It also makes it easier to apply plaster. Continue until the walls are covered.
