How to Raise Your Snowmobile Track for the Summer

After a long winter of putting your snowmobile to good use, the snow has dried up and no longer provides adequate turf for your frigid rides. The time has come to store your snowmobile away for the summer. An important step in this process is treating your tracks, the parts that slide along the snow to enable more smooth rides next winter. To accomplish this task, you will need the right tools and a little time and effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the snowmobile using jacks. Support the jacks with the snowmobile's bumpers. Make sure the tracks are completely clear of the ground.

    • 2

Identify the tension bolts that secure the tracks. The bolts will be found outside the snowmobile in front of each track. Snowmobiles with two sets of tracks will have two bolts on each side.

    • 3

Twist the tension bolts all the way to the left with a wrench. This will loosen them and relieve pressure. Minimizing pressure prevents cracking in the summer months.

    • 4

Check the tracks for any junk stuck inside. Pull any dirt or debris out so it does not get stuck in the track.

    • 5

Spray the metal clips on the inner sides of the track with rust inhibitor. Make sure you coat each clip evenly and completely.

Tips & Warnings

  • Store your snowmobile in a protected space to prevent damage from the elements while not in use.

  • Make sure your snowmobile is completely off the ground before touching the tracks.
