How to Install an AC Adapter in a Car
Using a portable electronic device in your car typically requires the use of an adapter designed to work with a car's 12-volt electrical outlet or cigarette lighter. Unfortunately, there are several downfalls with this approach. Buying a car adapter for your device can cost you extra, especially when trying to buy an adapter for more than one device. Further, some devices may not even have a car adapter at all. You can avoid these issues by installing an AC inverter in you car.

1
Purchase an AC inverter suitable to your needs. Make sure that the adapter's power output exceed the minimum power requirement of your device. You can also purchase an inverter with multiple outlets.
-
2
Plug the adapter securely into your car's 12-volt electrical outlet or, if lacking one, into your car's cigarette lighter. The adapter should not move or move very little when properly inserted. These adapters typically have an LED light which lights up once installed. If your device has an LED light and it doesn't turn on when installed, reinstall the device until it does so.

Plug your device into the inverter's AC socket as if you're plugging it into a wall socket and use the device as intended. Your device should now work as if it is plugged into a wall socket.

Tips & Warnings
Turn your car on to avoid a discharged battery if you plan on using your device for more than two hours, or if it is a high-wattage device. Also, remove your AC adapter from the socket when not in use to avoid discharging the battery.
An AC inverter is created to generate the same amount of electricity as a wall outlet. Avoid shocking yourself with the outlet as serious injury or death could occur.
