How to Summerize a Snowmobile Track

Store your snowmobile properly to keep it in good working condition.

When the long cold and snowy winter ends, it is time to put the snowmobile away and prepare it for the next winter's use. The tracks are the parts of the snowmobile that ride along the snow for an even and smooth ride. They need to be cared for in a specific way so they can be used again next snow season. Getting your hibernating snowmobile ready for summer requires simple tools and a little time.

Instructions

    • 1

Rest your snowmobile on jacks or cement blocks so the tracks are completely elevated off the ground. Make sure the jacks or blocks are using the bumpers for support not the tracks.

    • 2

Locate the tension bolts at the front of each of the tracks, on the outside of the vehicle. If you have two sets of tracks on each side of the snowmobile, there will be two bolts on either side.

    • 3

Loosen the tension bolts to the left with a wrench as far as they can go. This will remove the pressure on the tracks and prevent cracking over the summer.

    • 4

Inspect the inside and outside of the tracks for any dirt, leaves or other debris. Pull out any garbage that you find with your hand so that it doesn't become lodged there.

    • 5

Apply rust inhibitor spray over each of metal clips on the inside of the tracks. Make sure the spray saturates the clips for good protection.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always keep your snowmobile covered when not in use to protect it from dirt.

  • Do not drive a snowmobile if any of the parts are damaged or worn because safety cannot be assured.
