How to Trim a Line in CorelDRAW

The Corel Corporation's CorelDRAW graphics suite gives you the ability to create and edit vector and bitmap images, manipulate screen captures and generate page layouts. It includes a Trim feature that allows you to place objects on top of one another and then remove their overlapping sections, leaving behind a unique cutout shape. Trimming a line in this way becomes a quick task once you know how to select the proper menus and commands.

  • Open in CorelDRAW the file containing the line you want to trim.

  • Single-click the line object.

  • Click "Arrange" in the top menu bar, select "Shaping" and then click on the "Shaping" option that appears in the resulting menu. This action opens the Shaping palette within the CorelDRAW window.

  • Click the drop-down at the top of the Shaping palette and select the "Trim" option.

  • Check the box labeled "Target Object(s)."

  • Click the "Trim" button located at the bottom of the Shaping palette.

  • Single-click the object containing the shape you want to trim from your selected line. The overlapping portion of the object is trimmed from your line immediately.
