How to Service 300ZX Transmission Fluid

Checking your Nissan 300ZX transmission fluid levels will keep your car on the road and in working condition. The car's transmission is responsible for switching gears, so keeping this part properly lubricated will help your car shift gears more smoothly and will keep the transmission from blowing out. Servicing your vehicle's transmission fluid is done by measuring fluid with the dipstick and adding more as needed. If the fluid lands above the fill line, your car already has adequate fluid; if not, you'll need to add more fluid.

Things You'll Need

  • Car funnel
  • Transmission fluid
  • Towel
  • Start the car on a level plane. Transmission fluid is checked with a warm engine, so allow the car to sit for a few minutes.

  • Open the hood of the car, and prop it up.

  • Remove the transmission dipstick, located near the passenger side and behind the engine. Wipe off the fluid with a towel.

  • Place the dipstick back where it was removed. Remove it again, and check levels.

  • Add more fluid if needed. Place the funnel directly where you pulled the dipstick from, and pour fluid into the transmission through the funnel. Check fluid levels, and add more as needed. When finished, replace the dipstick and close the hood, before turning off your vehicle.
